Chapter 89
Maschil{H8688)} of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing{H8799)} of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known{H8686)} thy faithfulness to all generations.
For I have said{H8804)}, Mercy shall be built up{H8735)} for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish{H8686)} in the very heavens.
I have made{H8804)} a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn{H8738)} unto David my servant,
Thy seed will I establish{H8686)} for ever, and build up{H8804)} thy throne to all generations. Selah.
And the heavens shall praise{H8686)} thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.
For who in the heaven can be compared{H8799)} unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened{H8799)} unto the LORD?
God is greatly to be feared{H8737)} in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence{H8737)} of all them that are about him.
O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
Thou rulest{H8802)} the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise{H8800)}, thou stillest{H8762)} them.
Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces{H8765)}, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered{H8765)} thine enemies{H8802)} with thy strong arm.
The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded{H8804)} them.
The north and the south thou hast created{H8804)} them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice{H8762)} in thy name.
Thou hast a mighty arm: strong{H8799)} is thy hand, and high{H8799)} is thy right hand.
Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go{H8762)} before thy face.
Blessed is the people that know{H8802)} the joyful sound: they shall walk{H8762)}, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.
In thy name shall they rejoice{H8799)} all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted{H8799)}.
For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted{H8799)}{H8675)}{H8686)}.
For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
Then thou spakest{H8765)} in vision to thy holy one, and saidst{H8799)}, I have laid{H8765)} help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted{H8689)} one chosen{H8803)} out of the people.
I have found{H8804)} David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed{H8804)} him:
With whom my hand shall be established{H8735)}: mine arm also shall strengthen{H8762)} him.
The enemy{H8802)} shall not exact{H8686)} upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict{H8762)} him.
And I will beat down{H8804)} his foes before his face, and plague{H8799)} them that hate{H8764)} him.
But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted{H8799)}.
I will set{H8804)} his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
He shall cry{H8799)} unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
Also I will make{H8799)} him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.
My mercy will I keep{H8799)} for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast{H8737)} with him.
His seed also will I make{H8804)} to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
If his children forsake{H8799)} my law, and walk{H8799)} not in my judgments;
If they break{H8762)} my statutes, and keep{H8799)} not my commandments;
Then will I visit{H8804)} their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take{H8686)} from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail{H8762)}.
My covenant will I not break{H8762)}, nor alter{H8762)} the thing that is gone out of my lips.
Once have I sworn{H8738)} by my holiness that I will not lie{H8762)} unto David.
His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.
It shall be established{H8735)} for ever as the moon, and as a faithful{H8737)} witness in heaven. Selah.
But thou hast cast off{H8804)} and abhorred{H8799)}, thou hast been wroth{H8694)} with thine anointed.
Thou hast made void{H8765)} the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned{H8765)} his crown by casting it to the ground.
Thou hast broken down{H8804)} all his hedges; thou hast brought{H8804)} his strong holds to ruin.
All that pass by{H8802)} the way spoil{H8804)} him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.
Thou hast set up{H8689)} the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies{H8802)} to rejoice{H8689)}.
Thou hast also turned{H8686)} the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand{H8689)} in the battle.
Thou hast made his glory to cease{H8689)}, and cast his throne down{H8765)} to the ground.
The days of his youth hast thou shortened{H8689)}: thou hast covered{H8689)} him with shame. Selah.
How long, LORD? wilt thou hide{H8735)} thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn{H8799)} like fire?
Remember{H8798)} how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made{H8804)} all men in vain?
What man is he that liveth{H8799)}, and shall not see{H8799)} death? shall he deliver{H8762)} his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.
Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest{H8738)} unto David in thy truth?
Remember{H8798)}, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear{H8800)} in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;
Wherewith thine enemies{H8802)} have reproached{H8765)}, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached{H8765)} the footsteps of thine anointed.
Blessed{H8803)} be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
