Chapter 49

To the chief Musician{H8764)}, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. Hear{H8798)} this, all ye people; give ear{H8685)}, all ye inhabitants{H8802)} of the world:

Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

My mouth shall speak{H8762)} of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

I will incline{H8686)} mine ear to a parable: I will open{H8799)} my dark saying upon the harp.

Wherefore should I fear{H8799)} in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass{H8799)} me about?

They that trust{H8802)} in their wealth, and boast{H8691)} themselves in the multitude of their riches;

None of them can by any means{H8800)} redeem{H8799)} his brother, nor give{H8799)} to God a ransom for him:

(For the redemption of their soul is precious{H8799)}, and it ceaseth{H8804)} for ever:)

That he should still live{H8799)} for ever, and not see{H8799)} corruption.

For he seeth{H8799)} that wise men die{H8799)}, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish{H8799)}, and leave{H8804)} their wealth to others.

Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call{H8804)} their lands after their own names.

Nevertheless man being in honour abideth{H8799)} not: he is like{H8738)} the beasts that perish{H8738)}.

This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve{H8799)} their sayings. Selah.

Like sheep they are laid{H8804)} in the grave; death shall feed{H8799)} on them; and the upright shall have dominion{H8799)} over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume{H8763)} in the grave from their dwelling.

But God will redeem{H8799)} my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive{H8799)} me. Selah.

Be not thou afraid{H8799)} when one is made rich{H8686)}, when the glory of his house is increased{H8799)};

For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away{H8799)}: his glory shall not descend{H8799)} after him.

Though while he lived he blessed{H8762)} his soul: and men will praise{H8686)} thee, when thou doest well{H8686)} to thyself.

He shall go{H8799)} to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see{H8799)} light.

Man that is in honour, and understandeth{H8799)} not, is like{H8738)} the beasts that perish{H8738)}.
