Insanity
Scripture speaks of troubled minds plainly and without mockery. In Deuteronomy, madness is named among the sorrows that follow turning from the LORD. Saul, after the Spirit of the LORD left him, was troubled by an evil spirit, and the story of his long unrest begins there. When Jesus’s own friends heard the crowds, they said, “He is beside himself,” and went to take hold of him. Matthew records that people “which were lunatick” were among the sick brought to Jesus, and that he healed them. The few passages are sobering, yet they end with a healer.

The LORD shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart:
1 Samuel
But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
Matthew
And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
Mark
And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.
