1 Samuel

31 chapters

First Samuel tells how Israel moved from judges to kings. Samuel, the last judge, is born in answer to his mother's prayer. The people ask for a king, and Saul is anointed, but he disobeys and loses God's favor. A young shepherd named David defeats Goliath and spends years fleeing Saul's jealousy before the book ends with Saul's death.
