There are several men named Shammah in the Bible. The best known is a son of Jesse. When Samuel came to choose a king, Jesse made Shammah pass by, and Samuel said, “Neither hath the LORD chosen this.” Another Shammah was one of David’s mighty men, a Hararite. A third was a grandson of Esau through Reuel, listed among the chiefs of Edom. Jonadab, the clever friend of Amnon, was a son of Shimeah, David’s brother, a name in some versions spelled Shammah. Most are only names, but 1 Samuel 16 gives one of them a small, memorable moment.

And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife.
And these are the sons of Reuel Esau's son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these are the dukes that came of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife.

But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.
And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

(3.) One of the three greatest of David’s mighty men. (2 Samuel 23:11-17) (B.C. 1061.)
(4.) The Harodite, one of David’s mighties. (2 Samuel 23:25) He is called "SHAMMOTH the Harorite" in (1 Chronicles 11:27) and "SHAMHUTH the Izrahite" ibid. (1 Chronicles 27:8)
(5.) In the list of David’s mighty men in (2 Samuel 23:32,33) we find "Jonathan, Shammah the Hararite;" while in the corresponding verse of (1 Chronicles 11:34) it is Jonathan.
