Nimrod

Few people in Genesis get so short and so striking a portrait: “He was a mighty hunter before the LORD” (Genesis 10:9). Nimrod is named as a descendant of Noah through Cush, and the first of mighty men. His kingdom began with Babel, Erech and Accad in the land of Shinar. Nineveh and Calah are named in the verses that follow. The next chapter tells how people on the plain of Shinar built a city and a tower, and God scattered them. Whether the text praises or warns about Nimrod is something readers weigh differently. Genesis 10:8-12 is the whole passage.
