Jeremiah prophesied as Jerusalem fell to Babylon. Called as a young man, he warned the people for decades and was mocked, beaten and imprisoned for it. He wept over his nation, and he is often called the weeping prophet. Yet he also announced a new covenant, when God would write his law on people's hearts.
