Midianites
Joseph’s brothers had just sat down to eat when a caravan came into view. Genesis 37:28 says “there passed by Midianites merchantmen,” and Joseph was drawn up out of the pit and sold. The Midianites trace back to Midian, one of six sons Abraham had by Keturah (Genesis 25). Later prophets keep them in view: Isaiah 60:6 pictures “the dromedaries of Midian” bringing gold and incense, and Habakkuk 3:7 says the curtains of Midian’s land “did tremble.” Genesis 37 is the place to meet them.

Genesis
Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah.
And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.
And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.
And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.
Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
Isaiah
The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD.
Habakkuk
I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.
