Save now! or Save, we beseech, (Matt. 21:9). This was a customary form of acclamation at the feast of Tabernacles. (Comp. Ps. 118:25.)
Hosanna
Hosanna was the cry of the crowd as Jesus rode toward Jerusalem. The people who went before and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.” John adds that they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him. Matthew records the same shout from children in the temple, which displeased the chief priests and scribes. The word itself is left untranslated in these accounts, and the shouts around it speak of David’s kingdom and of a coming king. Read Matthew 21, then compare Mark 11 and John 12.

(save now). "Save, we pray!" the cry of the multitudes as they thronged in our Lord’s triumphal procession into Jerusalem. (Matthew 21:9,15; Mark 11:9,10; John 12:13) The Psalm from which it was taken, the 118th, was one with which they were familiar from being accustomed to recite the 25th and 26th verses at the feast of tabernacles, forming a part of the great hallel. Ps. 113-118.
