Caphtorim
Where did the Philistines come from? The Bible points to Caphtor. Jeremiah speaks of “the remnant of the country of Caphtor”, and in Amos God asks Israel, “Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?” The Caphtorim are the people of that land. Deuteronomy 2:23 says they “came forth out of Caphtor”, destroyed the Avims, and “dwelt in their stead.” Genesis 10 names them in a list of peoples, beside Pathrusim and Casluhim. The verses give little more than that, and no more should be claimed.
