Shaul

In Simeon’s family list, Shaul comes last, named as “the son of a Canaanitish woman.” Genesis and Exodus both give the list with his name, and Numbers later counts “the family of the Shaulites” among the clans. That is how a family grew into households, each carrying the name of a son. A second Shaul turns up in a line of Levites in 1 Chronicles 6, listed with his father and forebears. Little is told about either man beyond his place in the record, and the record is enough.
