Ragau

Ragau is a name most readers meet only in a list. Luke traces Jesus’ family back through many fathers and sons, and there it says Jesus was the son of Heber, which was the son of Phalec, “which was the son of Ragau.” The same man is Reu in the Old Testament, where Genesis 11 says Peleg “begat Reu” and that Reu lived and “begat Serug.” First Chronicles gives the line again in a few words: Eber, Peleg, Reu. Nothing is told about his own deeds, only that he stands in the unbroken line leading to Abraham and, in Luke, on toward Jesus.
