The name generally given to Upper Egypt (the Thebaid of the Greeks), as distinguished from Matsor, or Lower Egypt (Isa. 11:11; Jer. 44:1, 15; Ezek. 30:14), the two forming Mizraim. After the destruction of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar, colonies of Jews settled “in the country of Pathros” and other parts of Egypt.
Pathros
Pathros is a region of Egypt, and Scripture names it where Jews had gone to live. Jeremiah 44:1 addresses “all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt,” including those “in the country of Pathros.” Ezekiel 30:14 carries a warning: “I will make Pathros desolate.” Isaiah 11:11 holds a promise, that the Lord will “recover the remnant of his people” from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros and other far places. Read Isaiah 11 for the hope, and Jeremiah 44 for the people living there.
