Mother-In-Law
Simon Peter’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever when Jesus came to the house, and they told him about her at once. He took her by the hand and lifted her up, the fever left her, and she ministered to them. Mark 1:30-31 gives the scene in two short verses. Elsewhere the topic turns to law: Leviticus 18 and 20 forbid a man to take both a woman and her mother, calling it wickedness. The gospel scene is the warmer picture, a family member cared for in her own home.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness.
And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you.
