Firm. (1.) The fourth son of Simeon (Gen. 46:10), called also Jarib (1 Chr. 4:24).
(2.) The head of one of the courses (the twenty-first) of priests (1 Chr. 24:17).
(3.) One of the priests who returned from the Exile (1 Chr. 9:10).
Jachin
Jachin is a name that belongs to two quite different things. It is a son of Simeon, listed in Genesis 46 and Exodus 6, and also a priest whose family gets the twenty-first turn of temple service. But it is best known as the right-hand pillar at the front of Solomon’s temple, which was set up and named, with the left pillar called Boaz. Chronicles repeats the account. Nothing in the text explains the names, so the pillars simply stand at the door, a pair that people entered between. Read 1 Kings 7 for the building details.
