Houghing
Houghing means cutting the leg tendons of a horse so it can no longer run or pull a chariot. It is an unusual word, and the Bible uses it in only a few places. Before the battle at the waters of Merom, the Lord told Joshua to “hough their horses,” and he did. Centuries later David did the same to the chariot horses he captured, keeping back only enough for a hundred chariots. In both accounts the horse, the great weapon of ancient armies, is set aside, and the text leaves the reason with the Lord’s command. Read Joshua 11 first.

Joshua
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.
