Hanoch

Hanoch is a name that mostly sits in a family list. He is the eldest son of Reuben, who was Jacob’s firstborn, and he is named with his brothers Pallu, Hezron and Carmi in Genesis 46, Exodus 6 and 1 Chronicles 5. When Israel was counted in the wilderness, Numbers 26 says the family of the Hanochites came from him. The Bible tells no stories about Hanoch himself. His place in these lists shows how carefully Scripture keeps track of ordinary families, each one a branch of Israel with a name and a record.
