Azzah
Azzah is the older spelling of Gaza, the southern-most of the Philistine cities, and appears on the map where Canaan meets Egypt. Joshua lists its people among the five lords of the Philistines, and in the days of the judges, raiders pushed as far as it. Prophets speak against it: Amos says the LORD will “send a fire on the wall of Gaza,” and Zephaniah warns that “Gaza shall be forsaken.” Deuteronomy 2:23 uses the Hebrew form Azzah, saying a people called the Avims lived in villages as far as it. Amos 1:6-8 shows the warning to Gaza.
