(strong), a place named as being on the southern boundary of the Holy Land, apparently near the torrent of Egypt (Wadi el-Arish). (Numbers 34:4,5; Joshua 15:4) It has not yet been identified.
Azmon
A border line has to start and stop somewhere, and Azmon is one of its markers. When the LORD describes the edges of Canaan, the southern boundary runs from Kadeshbarnea, and “the border shall fetch a compass from Azmon unto the river of Egypt” (Numbers 34:5). Joshua repeats it for Judah’s south coast, passing “toward Azmon” before it reaches the river and the sea (Joshua 15:4). Azmon is never a story, only a landmark on the edge of the promised land, as a fixed point in a long list of places. Numbers 34 sets out the whole boundary.
