Ashan
Ashan is a small town that appears mostly in lists. Joshua 15:42 places it among the cities of Judah’s lowland, beside Libnah and Ether. Joshua 19:7 counts it again with the towns given to Simeon, “four cities and their villages”. Later, 1 Chronicles 4:32 repeats it among Simeon’s five. Nothing happens there that the text tells us; it only keeps a place on the map as the land is divided among the tribes. Reading Joshua 15 and 19 side by side shows why the same names sit in two tribes’ accounts.
