Ar

Ar is a city of Moab that Scripture mostly mentions as it falls. In Numbers 21 an old song about Sihon’s victory says, “there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab.” The same song cries, “Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone.” Numbers 21:15 puts Ar on the border of Moab. Centuries after, Isaiah’s burden against Moab opens with the city’s end: “in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence.” Read Numbers 21:21-30 and then Isaiah 15.
