Steward
A steward looks after another person’s house. Abram, in Genesis 15:2, laments that the steward of his house is Eliezer of Damascus, and Joseph’s brothers meet his steward at the door. King David has stewards over all the king’s possessions. Then Paul shifts the word to ministry. In 1 Corinthians 4:2 he says, “it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful”, and Peter urges believers to be good stewards of God’s grace by serving one another, each with the gift received. Read 1 Peter 4:7-11 for how that looks in an ordinary community of believers.

And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
