Sinews

Sinews are the cords that bind muscle to bone, and the Bible mentions them when it speaks of how a body is put together. Job says to God, “Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced me with bones and sinews.” Elsewhere the word marks suffering, as Job’s sinews “take no rest,” or stubbornness, as in Isaiah’s “iron sinew.” The best-known passage is Ezekiel 37, where sinews and flesh come up on dry bones. God promises, “I will lay sinews upon you,” and then breath comes in. Ezekiel 37:1-10 is the place to read it whole.
