Samlah
Before Israel had a king, Edom had them. Genesis 36 lists the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, one after another, each with a short entry. When Hadad died, “Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead”; when Samlah died, Saul of Rehoboth by the river reigned after him. 1 Chronicles 1 repeats the list almost word for word. Nothing else is said about Samlah’s reign, and no event is attached to it. His name sits in the line between Hadad and Saul. See Genesis 36:31-39 for the whole list of kings.
