(friend), son of Peleg, in the line of Abraham’s ancestors. (Genesis 11:18,19,20,21; 1 Chronicles 1:25) (B.C. about 2213.)
Reu
Reu appears only in the family lists of Genesis 11 and 1 Chronicles 1, and no story is told about him. The record is short: “Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug,” and afterward he lived more than two hundred years and had other sons and daughters. He is the son of Peleg and the father of Serug, one link in a chain that runs from Shem’s line toward Abram. Lists like this can feel dry, yet they keep the story rooted in real families, each person named and counted. Luke’s Gospel also carries his name, in a slightly different spelling, in the ancestry of Jesus.
