Nose

Gold on a pig’s snout is a strange picture, and Proverbs means it to be: “As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.” That is one of the few places the nose appears at all. Isaiah lists “nose jewels” among the ornaments of proud women in Jerusalem, and Ezekiel describes a harsh judgment in which enemies “take away thy nose and thine ears.” The three verses are scattered across different books and speak in different tones, so this is a small topic, not a theme. Proverbs 11:22 is the quickest of them to read and remember.
