Prepared, the owner of a thrashing-floor near which Uzzah was slain (2 Sam. 6:6); called also Chidon (1 Chr. 13:9).
Nachon
A cart, two oxen and an ark on a threshing floor: that is the scene. David was bringing the ark of God toward Jerusalem when the oxen shook it, and Uzzah put out his hand to steady it. The account says “the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah,” and he died there beside the ark. Second Samuel names the place as Nachon’s threshing floor; First Chronicles tells the same event at the threshing floor of Chidon, calling the man Uzza. Readers have long found the story sobering, and it shows how seriously the ark was to be treated. Both tellings are short and worth setting side by side.
