Melchishua

Melchishua is a name you could easily read past. He was one of the sons of King Saul, listed beside Jonathan and Abinadab in the family tree of 1 Chronicles 9. Only one moment gives him more than a name: when the Philistines pressed hard on Saul, they “slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua.” The Bible spells it two ways, Melchishua in one place and Malchishua in another. It is a quiet reminder that Saul’s last battle on Mount Gilboa cost him three sons in a single day. The account is in 1 Samuel 31.
