(impetuous), (2 Samuel 23:28; 1 Chronicles 11:30; 27:13) an inhabitant of Netophah in the tribe of Judah, and one of David’s captains.
Maharai
Among David’s mighty men, one is named only by his hometown and a short line: Maharai the Netophathite. He appears in the lists of 2 Samuel 23 and 1 Chronicles 11, and again in 1 Chronicles 27, where he is the tenth captain, serving the tenth month with twenty-four thousand men in his course. Scripture tells no story about him, only that David kept careful record of the people who stood with him and that each one had a post and a month. Reading any of these lists is a reminder that the Bible remembers names, even ones with no speeches attached.
