Kelaiah

Kelaiah is a Levite whose name is given a second form in the same breath: “the same is Kelita.” He appears first in Ezra 10:23 among those who had married foreign wives and promised to set that right. In Nehemiah 8:7 a Kelita stands with the Levites who “caused the people to understand the law” as it was read aloud, giving the sense so everyone could follow. He is also named in Nehemiah 10:10 among those who sealed the covenant. The Bible says little about him, but it places him wherever the people were hearing God’s word and trying to obey it.
