Nehemiah, a cupbearer to the Persian king, hears that Jerusalem's walls lie in ruins and returns to rebuild them. Through prayer, planning and steady work in the face of threats, the wall is finished in fifty-two days. Ezra then reads the law to the people, and they renew their covenant with God.
