Jucal

Jucal is a royal official in Jerusalem during its last, anxious days. King Zedekiah sent him, spelled Jehucal in one verse, to the prophet Jeremiah with a plain request: “Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.” Not long after, Jucal is named among the men who heard Jeremiah telling people to surrender to the Babylonians. The princes then asked the king to put the prophet to death, saying he weakened the hands of the soldiers. The same man who asked for Jeremiah’s prayers helped call for his silence. Jeremiah 37:3 and 38:1-6 tell it.

Jeremiah 38:4

Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
