Jehoiarib

When the priests were sorted into their courses for the work of the temple, the first lot came out for Jehoiarib. First Chronicles 24 says so in a single line: “the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah.” The name appears again in a list of priests who lived in Jerusalem, in 1 Chronicles 9, and in Nehemiah 11 it is spelled Joiarib. There is no story told about the man himself. What the verses give is his place at the head of an ordered service, which gave each family its turn.
