Ira is a name that appears in the lists of David’s mighty men and officers, as a quiet reminder that a kingdom runs on many people. Two passages call him the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite and place him among David’s warriors. Another speaks of an Ira the Ithrite, also counted among the thirty. In 1 Chronicles 27 he is the captain over the sixth month’s course of twenty-four thousand men. Not much is said about him, but his name was kept, which says something about how Scripture remembers those who served faithfully.
