Instability

In Jesus’ story of the sower, some seed lands where it has “no root,” and the people it stands for believe “for a while” and fall away when trouble comes (Luke 8:13). That shallow start is one side of instability in these verses. The other is a mind pulled two ways: “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways,” says James. Paul wants believers to stop being “tossed to and fro” by every new teaching, and Hosea hears God say, “your goodness is as a morning cloud.” Hebrews 13:9 names the remedy as a heart “established with grace.”
