(perverse), the father of Ira the Tekoite. (2 Samuel 23:26; 1 Chronicles 11:28; 27:9) (B.C. before 1046.)
Ikkesh
Ikkesh is known only as a father. His son Ira, a man of Tekoa, was one of the mighty men who served David, and 2 Samuel 23 and 1 Chronicles 11 both name him in that company. Later, in 1 Chronicles 27, Ira the son of Ikkesh is the sixth captain, in charge of the sixth month, with twenty and four thousand men in his course. So a quiet name stands behind a trusted soldier and officer. The verses never say what Ikkesh himself did, only that his son was counted among those David relied on. It is a small picture of how a family’s name can be carried by the next generation.
