Ibhar

Ibhar was one of David’s sons, born to him in Jerusalem. His name sits in three short lists: 2 Samuel 5:15, 1 Chronicles 3:6 and 1 Chronicles 14:5. Each time he appears beside Elishua and a few brothers, and the lists are written so that the family of a king, with all its many children, is remembered in order. The Bible tells us nothing else about Ibhar himself, no deeds and no words. What it does give is his place in David’s household, a quiet reminder that most people in Scripture are known to us by name alone. Reading the lists slowly makes them feel less like a ledger.
