Hakkoz

Meremoth is remembered twice for rebuilding a piece of the wall. Nehemiah says he was the son of Urijah, the son of Koz, and he repaired one section next to the others and then “another piece” beside the house of Eliashib. Koz, or Hakkoz, is the family name behind him. Ezra also lists the children of Koz among the priests who returned from exile. In these short verses a priestly family shows up in the ordinary labour of repair. Read Nehemiah 3 to hear the long roll of people who each took one piece.
