(a cutting down), a Benjamite, father of Abidan. (Numbers 1:11; 7:60,65; 10:24)
Gideoni
Some names appear only as a line in a list, and Gideoni is one. Each time, he is the father of someone else: “Abidan the son of Gideoni.” Abidan was captain of the tribe of Benjamin when Israel was counted in the wilderness, and he led its host on the march. On the ninth day of the leaders’ gifts, he brought the tribe’s offering, which included two oxen, five rams and five lambs. Scripture says nothing more about Gideoni himself, and it is honest to leave it there. Numbers 7 shows how each tribe’s leader was given the same careful place.
