Berechiah

Berechiah is a father’s name, and it turns up in Nehemiah’s wall-building. Meshullam “the son of Berechiah” repairs two sections of the wall, one beside Meremoth and Zadok and another “over against his chamber” (Nehemiah 3:4, 30). The third mention is less friendly. Tobiah, who opposed the work, had married into the family: his son Johanan “had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah” (Nehemiah 6:18). So the same family name appears among the builders and in the web of ties that pressed on Nehemiah. Nehemiah 3 is the place to begin.
