A storehouse (Deut. 28:8; Job 39:12; Hag. 2:19) for grain, which was usually under ground, although also sometimes above ground (Luke 12:18).
Barn
A full barn is Scripture’s picture of plenty, and a ruined one of loss. “So shall thy barns be filled with plenty,” says Proverbs 3:10, while Joel 1:17 mourns that “the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.” Jesus uses barns in two ways. Birds “sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns,” yet the heavenly Father feeds them (Matthew 6:26). And at harvest the wheat is gathered into his barn while the weeds are burned (Matthew 13:30). Matthew 6:26 is a gentle place to begin.
