A town of the tribe of Dan (Josh. 19:44). It was fortified by Solomon (1 Kings 9:18; 2 Chr. 8:6). Some have identified it with Bel’ain, in Wady Deir Balut.
Baalath
Baalath is a Danite town that is later fortified by King Solomon. First it appears in a list of cities given to Dan, beside Eltekeh and Gibbethon (Joshua 19:44). Solomon later builds it up, as one of the “store cities that Solomon had, and all the chariot cities, and the cities of the horsemen” (2 Chronicles 8:6), and 1 Kings 9:18 names it again with Tadmor in the wilderness. A small town on a list, yet it shows how a king’s building plans reached out across the land, beyond Jerusalem. Start with 1 Kings 9:15-19.
