Arvadites
A quiet family name in Genesis 10 turns into sailors and soldiers in Ezekiel. The Arvadite is listed among the descendants of Canaan, along with “the Zemarite, and the Hamathite”, and the same line is repeated in 1 Chronicles 1. Centuries later Ezekiel describes the wealthy port of Tyre and says “The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy mariners.” The men of Arvad also stood guard on her walls. The passages give just a few glimpses of its people, first as a clan and later as hired hands.
