Anak
The verses here say little about the man himself. They tell instead of his three sons, Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai, living at Hebron, a city called after Arba, “the father of Anak.” When the land was divided, Hebron went to Caleb, who “drove thence the three sons of Anak.” Joshua also lists the city among those given to the priests. The passages are plain about places and people, not about legend. They fit into the larger account of Israel taking the land, which begins in the book of Joshua.
