Amram belongs to the tribe of Levi, a grandson of Levi through Kohath. Scripture mostly mentions him for the family he started. His wife was Jochebed, and she bore “Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister” (Numbers 26:59). That makes him the father of Israel’s first high priest, its great lawgiver and a prophetess, though the verses say little about the man himself. His descendants, the Amramites, took their share of the Levites’ work around the tabernacle. One other Amram turns up among the sons of Dishon in Edom’s line. Numbers 26:57-59 gathers the family details.

And the sons of Kohath; Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel: and the years of the life of Kohath were an hundred thirty and three years.

And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom her mother bare to Levi in Egypt: and she bare unto Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister.

Kindred of the High; i.e., “friend of Jehovah.” (1.) The son of Kohath, the son of Levi. He married Jochebed, “his father’s sister,” and was the father of Aaron, Miriam, and Moses (Ex. 6:18, 20; Num. 3:19). He died in Egypt at the age of 137 years (Ex. 6:20). His descendants were called Amramites (Num. 3:27; 1 Chr. 26:23). (2.) Ezra 10:34.
