Zeresh

When Haman came home swollen with pride, he gathered his friends and his wife Zeresh and listed his riches, his many children and his place above the princes. Yet all of it, he said, “availeth me nothing” while Mordecai the Jew sat at the king’s gate. Zeresh answered with a plan: build a gallows fifty cubits high and ask the king to hang Mordecai on it. Later, when Haman’s luck turned, she and his wise men warned that if Mordecai was of the seed of the Jews he would surely prevail. She is a small part of Esther’s story, and a voice that first fed Haman’s anger and then foresaw his fall.
