Pilot

Pilots appear only in Ezekiel’s long lament over the sea trading city of Tyre. It is pictured as a great ship, and the people of Zidon and Arvad are named as its mariners, while its “wise men” served as its pilots. Those who steered the ship stood for the skill and pride of the whole city. When Tyre falls, the prophet says, the suburbs will shake at the cry of the pilots, and the pilots will leave their ships and stand upon the land. Read Ezekiel 27, and notice how the ship’s crew mourn.
