Physiology
The body gets some quiet praise in these seven verses. In Psalm 139:14 the writer says, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”, and goes on to picture God watching him take shape before any of his members existed. Job speaks in the same spirit, remembering skin, flesh, bones and sinews. Paul then borrows the picture for the church in Ephesians 4:16, a body “fitly joined together” with each joint doing its part. The passages describe wonder rather than medicine. Psalm 139:13-16 is the richest of them, and it is worth reading slowly in full.
