Jahath is a Levite name more than anything else. Among the sons of Shimei, Jahath is called the chief of his father’s house, with his brother Zizah second. Another Jahath is listed among the Izharites in the order of the Levites, and one more helped oversee the repair of the temple under Josiah, where the men are said to have done their work faithfully. The first mention is of a different Jahath, in Judah’s line. These short entries show the careful records kept of the people who served in the house of God. The account of the repairs in 2 Chronicles 34 is the most vivid of them.

And Reaiah the son of Shobal begat Jahath; and Jahath begat Ahumai, and Lahad. These are the families of the Zorathites.
And the sons of Shimei were, Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father's house.

And the men did the work faithfully: and the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and other of the Levites, all that could skill of instruments of musick.
