Refuge. (1.) A place on the border of the tribe of Asher (Josh. 19:29), a little to the south of Zidon.
(2.) A Levite of the family of Merari (1 Chr. 16:38).
Hosah
Hosah belonged to the Levites, the tribe set apart to care for worship. Scripture names him among those who guarded the entrances when David brought the ark to Jerusalem. First Chronicles 16:38 says he and Obededom were “porters,” meaning gatekeepers. First Chronicles 26 adds a small family story: Hosah was of the children of Merari, and although his eldest son was not the firstborn, his father made him chief. All told, Hosah’s sons and brethren numbered thirteen. He is one of the lesser-known servants whose work was keeping the doors of the house of God.
